A few weeks ago, we read, "Go Away Big Green Monster" and made an art project to go with the story. It's too bad we can't just read a story and make the flu go away! We are certainly looking forward to seeing all of the kinders back in class once they have recovered from the flu. It has hit our classroom really hard and we miss our friends! In the meantime, thank you for keeping your kinder home to rest and recover!
Last week we peeled apples, cut them up and cooked them in a pot. We made applesauce on Thursday and tasted it on Friday. We have some future chefs in our classroom!
I will be holding conferences Tuesday, October 13th in the evening and on Thursday, October 15th during regular school hours. I am scheduling times and will send a notice home with the kinders in the next few days. As a school, we always try to schedule sibling conferences around the same time for parent convenience. If I schedule a time that will not work for you, please send me a note or email me so that we can reschedule. Thank you!
Our class has been given some great opportunities for writing! The kinders have explored their Creative Writing journals and a new one...The Squiggle Book. I am anxious to share these at conferences. The kinders are taking risks (which is huge at this time of year) and putting down the sounds they hear. Cheerleading is frequently observed and gold stars are on overload! :)
Something to ask your child this week: Have him/her show you how to do a picture walk through his/her take-home reader prior to reading it. We do this in class and it helps the kinder's success with their reading of a book for the first time. Have a great week!
Susan =)
